Zheng Lab – Bad Project (Lady Gaga parody)
*edit* We are the Hui Zheng lab at BCM and study Alzheimer’s Disease. Thanks everyone for your comments and words of encouragement! We had no idea this would spread like it has, but I guess some of these feelings are universal (and international!). This was all in good fun and took us only a few days to do the filming and editing. If you are caught in a bad project, best of luck and hope you can turn it around soon!Our submission for the Molecular and Human Genetics Retreat 2011 at Baylor College of Medicine. @anbemom No. This is just 5 min of fun out of ~72 hours/week of HARD? work and miserable 20 000 $/year salary for a PhD degree student. Yes. 10 years of higher education for 20 000$ year salary and ~72 hours/week of HARD work.

just a reminder 1. to all who says something in the line of «if you just used the time in making this video, you should be working on your project» its called break from routine, your 9-5 job is boring to you, but could be fun to others who doesnt do it from 9-5. 2. tax dollars? didnt pay for this, and IF it even did, it did more to the scientific community than any scientific data its called morale, people work better/more if they are in a better mood

@murkybeers I get paid $17,000 per year ($4,000 goes to tuition) for being a PhD student. I work more than 9 to 5 and often need to work weekends. I? occasionally spend 12 non stop hours sitting in one room performing experiments without food nor water… and unlike most people, I cannot relax after I get home because I need to read articles. Why do I do this? To find a solution to heart disease. If I want to take a break from my work, I am wasting taxpayer’s dollars… oh the life of a scientist

I think if you really work hard and spend a lot of time in research – you need a funny opposite to relax and get new energy, so why not make a crazy video like this? do you? think a researcher’s life only consists of RESEARCH? no it doesn’t!

@murkybeers You surely know that even students and scientists have a life next to their job. And you also could make? this video in your so called «spare-time» using the stage of your work. It?s like you would ask if they had the copyrights from Lady Gaga – Bad Romance to make this vid… oO So plz think before writing……..
. And at least this video is saly true………?cause most of us have had such «bad project» some times

Scientists are usually paid to work 40hours a week (and usually not even paid that well for it). In reality we work a lot more than that. If? these people have used some of their unpaid overtime to make this video how can that be wasting tax payers money? I think this video is great! Thanks for making it!
